Redland Green School

Redland Green School

Welcome from Headteacher Sarah Baker

Speech mark - openWelcome to the Redland Green School website. Just five years old, we celebrated our excellent first set of GCSE results in August 2011.

As we said ‘goodbye’ to our first Year 11 students – even though the vast majority are returning to our Post 16 Centre – we were all very proud of the confident and responsible young adults they have become. Their enthusiasm has made them a joy to teach and, as the eldest, they have set the tone for our younger students. Our first Year 11s rose to the challenges we gave them and made outstanding progress in their learning.

GCSE and A Level success

We are delighted with our recent GCSE and A Level results, which you can see in detail here. Our students’ outstanding achievements are the result of both their hard work and the support and dedication of our teachers and other staff members who provide such excellent teaching and learning opportunities at the school. Most of our students attained the very highest results and our particular success in Maths and Sciences demonstrates the impact on our students’ learning of becoming a Specialist Science School.

We are working with local businesses, higher education and other community partners to engage a wider number of learners in Science, Maths and related subjects. We have also recently created a new ICT room that promotes further learning in Science and Maths activities.

Vibrant environment

Our inspiring new building is the outward sign of the vibrant learning community we have built within. Redland Green School students are very proud to be part of a school where they learn, enjoy and achieve through a range of opportunities, both in and out of the classroom. We encourage all our students to shine, to discover their talents and share them with others.

Redland Green School is unusual in that it has three components: the 11-16 school; the North Bristol Post 16 Centre; plus the purpose-built Claremont School facility, which is co-located on the site and provides a learning community for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties. Although each component has its own area, we make the most of opportunities to collaborate and benefit from learning together. Recent musical performances included students from Years 7 to 13, and all the students on-site have enjoyed whole-school celebrations, such as the staff panto and fundraising for Sports Relief.

We now have over 1,400 students in Years 7 to 11, as well as over 430 students in our full Post 16 Centre, which offers over 50 different A Level courses and some Level 2 courses. Not only do we ensure that all of our students are challenged to achieve, we also offer a curriculum that helps them to become successful learners, responsible citizens and confident individuals.

‘Outstanding student achievement’ – Ofsted 2010

Redland Green School had its second ever Ofsted Inspection in September 2010 and was recognised once again as ‘Good’. That we have made even further improvement is confirmed by our recent examination results. The school is especially pleased that inspectors identified student achievement as ‘outstanding’, describing our students as ‘friendly and articulate, who say they enjoy school’. The report’s findings demonstrate that the school has managed the challenge of its growth well and is providing the students of north Bristol with a challenging and rewarding place to learn where they are making good progress academically. We are also proud of our successes in sport, music and the wider opportunities we offer beyond the formal curriculum. Please look at the Year Book for 2010/11 and our photo gallery to find out more.

Long campaigned for by the local community, our superb new facilities at Redland Green School now serve that community. We challenge all of our students to succeed. We need to build our future actively, so that our students can become confident, successful and responsible young people ready to make their contributions to life in the 21st Century.

I hope that you will enjoy finding out more about a school where everyone is totally committed to ensuring its continuing success.Speech mark - close
