North Bristol Post 16 Centre
Redland Green School Learning Community
‘One Centre - two Learning Communities'
Director: Marian Curran BA (Hons) Theology & MA
Assistant Headteacher: Ben Houghton LLb (Hons) & PGCE
The North Bristol Post 16 Centre is a unique partnership of five schools serving a wide community and providing the highest quality education to post 16 students. Our two learning communities based at Cotham School and Redland Green School have a student population of 850. The two learning communities are a 10 minute walk apart and through collaboration and a shared timetable students have a choice of over 45 A-levels, and BTec courses.
The Redland Green Learning Community is based in a purpose-built facility within the Redland Green school site and 450 students are currently learning here.
Where Students are Involved and Supported
The best way to predict the future is to build it

A central element of our provision is effective support for students' learning and preparation for progression to higher education. Both North Bristol Post 16 Centre Learning Communities have their own Tutors and Student Support Officers, who are based at their respective sites and available full-time.
A well developed and effective tutoring system supports students from admission to induction, as well as throughout their career at North Bristol during preparation for and progression to higher education. This includes the careful tracking of students' progress against projected national standards. Working closely with parents and carers, we aim to inform students and ensure that we deliver appropriate intervention and support as required.
Redland Green School students excel in their extra-curricular sport, and this provision is extended to our post 16 students. There are timetabled sport and fitness opportunities using our full size sports hall and all-weather pitch on site.
From Sports to Music - Enrichment for All
A wide range of enrichment activities are offered to all students attending the Redland Green Post 16 Learning Community. Given that both Learning Communities are part of the same Centre, all students enjoy reciprocal use of facilities at both sites.
There are many events and activities which involve all post 16 students from both sites - sports, arts and music to name but a few. We have excellent sports and arts facilities on the Redland Green site, and the post 16 extra-curricular teams are already successful.
Post 16 students have played an essential part in the school musical productions of Oliver! and Bugsy Malone, taking lead roles and working with younger students to provide the musical accompaniment. Students have the chance to reflect a range of music, there have been 'Battles of the Bands' events and recitals from A-Level music students. Students from the post 16 centre are also very active in raising money for charities and 'PA for the Day' auctions and cake sales are appreciated by all members of the school community.

Post 16 students who wish to work with 11-16 students have the opportunity to do so. The school encourages schemes such as paired reading, Community Sports Leadership Award and other recognised programmes such as Young Enterprise. These not only offer valuable leadership opportunities for post 16 students, but also help build a strong sense of community within the school and enhance the learning of our younger students. Post 16 students also work with students from Claremont School, for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties, which is co-located on the Redland Site.
