Staff

The Redland Green School staff is led by a Strategic Leadership Team comprising Headteacher Sarah Baker, Deputy Headteachers Kim Garland and Rupert Maule, Assistant Headteachers Lesley Evans, Nick Jump and Paul Norris plus our Director of Finance & Administration Mike Farmer. Marian Curran has also recently joined the team as Director of the North Bristol Post 16 Centre.

Sarah Baker BSc MA NPQH

Headteacher

Sarah Baker

Sarah is a Bath University graduate and a qualified Ofsted Inspector with a Social Sciences background. Sarah has spent most of her career teaching in comprehensive schools in London - specifically Newham, Greenwich and Enfield. She has an MA in Post 16 Education and completed the 'National Professional Qualification for Headship' in 2003. She took up her post full-time in early April 2006 and immediately started work planning for the new school and recruiting staff. She says "the first two years have been the most enjoyable and also the most challenging of my career. It is a real privilege to be in the position of starting up a school and working with Governors, students and staff to build the school community. The parents of Years 7, 8 and 12 have been so supportive and have shown a real leap of faith in sending their children to a school which did not exist and was not yet built. It is a joy to work at Redland Green School".


Kim Garland

Kim Garland BSc (Hons) Environmental Sciences & PGCE Science in the Environment

Deputy Headteacher

Kim was appointed as Deputy Headteacher in June 2008. She has responsibility for improving the quality of teaching and learning at Redland Green School. She is building on her previous experience as Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion.


Rupert Maule BSc (Hons) Physics with Geophysics; PGCE & NPQH

Deputy Headteacher

Rupert Maule joined Redland Green School in April 2009 as Deputy Headteacher. He graduated from the University of Bath with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physics with Geophysics before completing his PGCE in the following year.  RGS is his fourth school having previously worked at three very different comprehensive schools in the Avon area.  Over this time he has held leadership roles in areas of both curriculum and social inclusion. Rupert has a professional interest in the development of a personalised curriculum for all students and curriculum development and implementation is a key aspect of his role at RGS. Rupert completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in 2007.


Lesley Evans MA NPQH

Assistant Headteacher

Lesley EvansA graduate in Fine Arts from Humberside University, Lesley taught for 14 years in both North and East Yorkshire leading very successful Art departments; an Art, Design and Technology faculty, and contributing to wider school leadership. A leadership role at a large, mixed comprehensive resulted in Lesley being named ‘Teacher of the Year’ for the North of England in 2002. She used skills acquired through her MA in Applied Educational Studies to develop her department’s innovative teaching approach that has led to a number of national awards for excellence in teaching and learning, cross-curricular development, community projects and provision for the arts. Lesley completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship in 2008.


Nick Jump BSc (Hons) Biology & PGCE

Assistant Headteacher

Nick studied Biology at the University of Bristol before taking up a place at the University's School of Education for a PGCE in Science. He began his teaching career in North Somerset where he gained promotion and experience in both curriculum development and pastoral care. Nick worked industriously as a pastoral leader to boost the personal development of the students and enhance their academic progress. The students achieved record breaking GCSE results for the region. Consequently Nick was seconded to the post of Director of Achievement, a position that allowed him to develop intervention strategies to improve student progress. He is enthusiastic about the prospects for all learners at Redland Green School.


Paul Norris BA

Assistant Headteacher

Paul NorrisPaul studied German and Linguistics at the University of Nottingham before taking up a place at the University's School of Education for a PGCE in German and French. His first teaching post was in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, and was followed after three years with a promotion to Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Farnham Heath End School in Surrey. In 2004, Paul was promoted to Assistant Headteacher, helping to secure his school’s specialist status in Maths and Computing and also working as a Leadership Coach on the ‘Leading from the Middle’ programme. He is passionate about using languages to enrich cultural experience.


Mike Farmer MBA Bath & BA (Hons) Economics 2.1

Director of Finance & Administration

Mike FarmerMike took his first degree in economics at the University of Sheffield then joined the UK Atomic Energy Authority in London. There he worked as an economic and planning analyst before leaving to pursue an MBA at the University of Bath. Returning to the UKAEA he managed its corporate IT section before moving into the finance function to develop and implement new financial reporting systems. For nine years prior to joining Redland Green School he worked in the corporate HQ of AEA Technology plc, an international science and engineering business based near Oxford. There Mike gained extensive experience managing complex budgeting and planning processes, strategy reviews, and acquisition and divestment projects. As a former Governor at Colston's Primary School, Mike held the positions of Chair of Finance and Special Educational Needs (SEN) Governor.


Marian Curran BA (Hons) Theology & MA

Director of North Bristol Post 16 Centre

Marian studied at Oxford where she obtained her degree in Theology. After working for a number of years, including two years teaching English as a second language in Japan, she studied for her Masters in Sociology, Politics and Economics.  

In the early part of her career, Marian worked with people in care and in various inner city London schools teaching Sociology, Religious Education and History.  As her career developed, she gained more responsibility becoming head of department in various schools as well as an Oxbridge mentor.  Marian was Head of Sixth Form at Wootton Bassett School and also the school's International Baccalaureate Co-ordinator. Whilst at the school, her areas of responsibility included the Gifted & Talented Programme and Personalised Learning. Marian is very keen to nurture international interests and links; while at Wootton Bassett, she co-ran a World Challenge trip to South Africa. Marian is looking forward to working with all the schools in the partnership to deliver outstanding post 16 education for the students of North Bristol.
