Child Sponsorship at Hope Foundation School in Bhuj, India

British Council International School Award Re-accreditation success
Redland Green School has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award for a second time in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.
The Award was given by the British Council, and presented by the Member of Parliament for Bristol West Thangam Debbonaire, at the Palace of Westminster in London on 5th December.
The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.
The international work includes curriculum links with schools in India, Germany and Spain undertaking collaborative projects across many subjects and interacting through trips, email and skype. Redland Green School has also raised funds for 40 students to attend the charity funded Hope Foundation School in India over a five year period.
Sir Ciarán Devane, CEO of the British Council, said: ‘The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award. The International School Award is a great chance for schools to demonstrate the important work they’re doing to bring the world into their classrooms. Embedding an international dimension in children’s education ensures that they are truly global citizens and helps prepare them for successful lives and careers in an increasingly global economy.’

Partnership with Hope Foundation School, Bhuj, India 2018 - 2019
During this school year there has been much collaboration with our partner school, Hope Foundation School, in India.
Students at both Redland Green School and Hope Foundation School have had the opportunity, through the partnership, to be enriched by experiencing life in such different countries and cultures.
In recognition of the partnership and other international activities, we were pleased to be re-accredited and presented with the British Council International School award by our MP, Thangam Debbonaire.
Many projects have been undertaken in different curriculum areas with students collaborating via skype, and sharing their work via post and email.
Geography have discussed the Gujarat earthquake of 2001 that caused 1 in 5 people in Bhuj to lose their lives and learnt about earthquake protection measures adopted at the school. ADT have made juggling balls and paintings in an Indian style. APEX have undertaken a project investigating Hope Foundation and undertaken fundraising events. Science have compared soils in the UK with India.
Our fundraising over the year has brought in over £3000, continuing the support of many children who would otherwise not be able to go to school, and giving them aspirations for the future. This has been through the efforts of many students including a non-uniform day, car washing, the drama performance, and APEX fundraising activities. We are also grateful to those who sponsor a child through the year.

Partnership with Hope Foundation School, Bhuj, India 2017-2018
As we come to the end of another school year, we can be pleased about the interaction that has taken place in partnership with Hope Foundation School.
Students at both Redland Green School and Hope Foundation School have had the opportunity, through the partnership, to be enriched by experiencing life in such different countries and cultures.
Many curriculum areas have interacted with Hope Foundation School undertaking different projects. In many cases students have collaborated via skype, shared their work via post and email.
Geography have discussed the Gujarat earthquake of 2001 that caused 1 in 5 people in Bhuj to lose their lives.
ADT have made juggling balls and paintings in an Indian style.
English have looked at Indian and UK stories and written letters to each other
APEX have undertaken a project investigating Hope Foundation and sharing portfolios with them.
Science have compared soils in the UK with India 
Our fundraising over the year has brought in £3700 enabling 40 children to go to school. This has been through the efforts of many students with food days, car washing, the drama performance, non-uniform day, projects in curriculum areas and sponsors. It makes such a difference to the prospects of the children to enable them to have an education, the possibility of climbing out of poverty, and have aspirations for their lives.
