UNIFORM

Redland Green School Uniform Expectations

School uniform is expected to be worn by all students at all times from arrival on school premises to leaving the school site at the end of the day.  Students should enter school correctly dressed in full school uniform, including their blazer. Any temporary variations to uniform, for example in hot weather, will be clearly communicated to students and their parents.

Where students are not in the correct uniform and no note has been provided by a parent a next day detention will be issued via Class Charts

Where students are wearing non-uniform items, staff will ask students to remove these items and place them in their bag. A next day detention will be issued via Class Charts.

In a situation where a student is wearing an item of non-uniform and refuses to remove this, (Please see Appendix 1) the item will be confiscated and placed at Reception until the end of the school week. Items will only be returned after 3.05pm at the end of the school week. Staff will log this as a Serious Incident and a further sanction will be issued.

PE kit can ONLY be worn as uniform on the day that a child has their PE lesson. Where a student needs to wear their PE kit for a sporting fixture or an enrichment activity they should wear their normal uniform to school and then get changed at school prior to the activity/fixture. Skorts cannot be worn instead of skirt on non-PE days.

If a student wears PE kit on a non-PE day and does not have a note, the student will be removed from lessons and sent to the Behaviour Support Room. Contact will be made with home and if it is practical the student will be sent home to change following a discussion with a parent. If this is not possible and the parent is not able to bring the correct uniform into school the student will remain in the Behaviour Support room for the rest of the day.

The decision of the Headteacher is final and students may not be allowed to participate in the school day if they are not wearing the correct uniform. If this occurs students may be lent uniform or asked to return home to change (following parental contact).

The School is pleased to be able to offer items of second-hand uniform for sale to parents/carers.  Second-hand uniform items (including blazers, shirts, PE kit, football boots etc) can be purchased from the RGS Parent Teacher Association (PTA) via the Classlist App. The PTA also accepts donations. This organisation provides a great way to be more sustainable whilst raising funds for the school.

Equipment

To support the learning and progress of all students it is important that students are equipped to learn each day. Please support your child in having the appropriate equipment for each lesson. A well -stocked pencil case is the first step in being equipped to learn for all lessons. Each curriculum area will make it clear what additional equipment is necessary for your child to participate fully and safely in each lesson. Failure to bring this equipment will result in a next day detention.

ALL students need to have:

  • School Bag – a sturdy bag suitable for carrying books and equipment is required. A rucksack with two straps is recommended for your health and safety. The design should be of dark colours with a discrete logo only.
  • Pencil case/tin (minimum level of equipment) – Writing pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, ruler and eraser - Scientific calculator - CASIO FX-83GT CW.
  • Maths geometry set: compasses & protractor.
  • Headphones (Only to be worn in a lesson at the direction of the teacher)– 3.5in jack for use with laptop or desktop computer.
  • Reading Book.

Failure to bring any of these items to school will result in a next day detention

Recommended equipment: Coloured pencils, highlighters and glue stick.

Correction fluid should not be brought into school; it is not allowed in public exams and we therefore do not allow its use.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL YOUR PROPERTY IS CLEARLY NAMED SO IT CAN BE RETURNED TO YOU IF LOST.

Please contact your child’s Head of Year if you would like any further clarification.

Use of mobile devices:

At Redland Green School we do not permit the use of mobile devices, including Smart Watches, during the school day. Members of the Senior Leadership Team meet all students upon arrival at school in the morning and students are asked to switch their mobile phone off/remove earphones and place them in their bag.  If the device and or earphones are seen by any member of staff at any time during the school day they will log this on our behaviour system and you will be notified that a next day detention has been issued.

Parents should contact the school, via telephone, if they need to deliver an important message. We kindly ask that you do not call or text your child during school hours.

Students should not contact their parents directly by using a mobile device if they feel unwell. They should alert a teacher who will send them to Reception to be seen by a trained first aider.
