The Governing Body

The Governing Body has a strategic and monitoring role. We support  the school in setting its vision and strategy, and hold school leaders to account for the performance of the students and staff. We also have a role in overseeing finances and the use of the school’s resources. We are not involved in the day to day running of the school, which is the responsibility of the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team.

Our overall authority comes to us from the Trustees of the Gatehouse Green Learning Trust, the Multi-Academy Trust of which RGS is a part, but in practice we have considerable autonomy and responsibility in relation to the running of the school.

All governors are volunteers. We normally have around twelve governors, of whom two are elected by parents as Parent Governors, and one is a Staff Governor elected by staff. The others are drawn from the local community, and they bring their wide ranging experience to the group. We welcome applications to join us, and there is a separate tab about this.

We meet regularly both as a full governing body, and in sub-committees which specialise in the various areas of our work - student performance, management of the school and resources, and staffing. We are also involved in the governance of the Post-16 Centre. The minutes of our main committee are available under the documents tab.

Our current governors and their areas of individual responsibility are listed below. Governors are required to declare any business or pecuniary interests in relation to the school; these are noted in the RGS Business-Pecuniary Interests Register of Governors and for the previous academic year 2017-2018 RGS Business-Pecuniary Interests Register of Governors.
