THE VISTA

Welcome to The Vista, The Redland Green School Library

  • Students are welcome to use the Vista for: reading, working, borrowing and returning books, and enjoying any activities taking place in the library.
  • The Vista is run by our full-time librarian, Mr Bramley, and a team of Student Librarians. Mr Bramley is constantly keeping the library up to date with the best possible books for students and is always on hand to help with book recommendations.
  • Mr Bramley is also actively involved in the Year 7 and 8 Vista lessons, an English lesson focused on reading which takes place fortnightly per class.
  • The Vista Prize Pot is our library raffle - students can earn tickets by taking part in Vista challenges, competitions, giving book reviews and using the library regularly, to be in with a chance of winning a book to keep or other reading related prizes!
  • The Vista is also host to various activities and clubs with the help of older students

THE VISTA USES OLIVER LIBRARY SYSTEM IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LOOK AT THE CATALOGUE OF RESOURCES THAT THE LIBRARY HAS.

YOU CAN ALSO FOLLOW OUR INSTAGRAM TO FIND OUT WHEN WE GET NEW BOOKS, ENTER COMPETITIONS, CHECK VISTA PRIZE WINNER ANNOUNCEMENTS AND KNOW ABOUT OUR MONTHLY EVENTS IN ADVANCE! THERE ARE EVEN GUEST POSTS AND RECCOMMENDATIONS FROM OUR STUDENT LIBRARIANS!

Vista Opening Hours:

  • 8.30am until 4pm - Monday to Friday
  • Break time is a relaxed and chatty space for all year groups to enjoy - come have a game of chess or read a book in a comfy chair.
  • Lunch time in the Vista is similarly relaxed and chatty, but with a rota for different year groups' use on different days, and some clubs taking place too.

→ There is also a sign on the Vista door which details this information:

Monday - Year 7 and Year 10

Tuesday - Year 8 and Year 11

Wednesday - Year 9 and Year 11

Thursday - Year 8 and Year 10

Friday - Year 7 and Year 9

  • During the school day, lessons, group work and one-to-one sessions also take place in the Vista, but it is open for general study if not otherwise being used.

The Practicalities:

  • Books can be checked out with the librarian and kept for two weeks.
  • Books can be renewed after two weeks if no other students are waiting for them.
  • No use of mobile phones
  • No food or drink (except water)
  • To make sure those who want a quiet space can enjoy the peace of the Vista too, we have a general rule of how many people can sit together and where:

The 'classroom' side is for larger groups (up to 5 people) to chat, play games and do clubs.

The 'shelving' side is for smaller group (up to 3) who want to sit and read, study or relax.

Student Librarian Team

  • We have a team of Student Librarians who are trained to use our borrowing system and to help assist students in finding the perfect books for them.
  • Student Librarian applications are currently CLOSED.

→ The Vista always welcomes new volunteers and helpers, so just let the librarian know if you are keen to get involved with library tasks during lunchtimes!
